Last week I managed to get my hands on the new Aura Botanica range by Kerastase. It’s silicone, sulfate and paraben free – the first of it’s kind by Kerastase, and since I have pretty much every line of theirs in my collection, I knew I had to buy this.
The idea behind Aura Botanica was to create a line that doesn’t contain sulfates, silicones or parabens, and adopt a more natural approach to haircare. In my opinion Kerastase have really taken their time to release this, and it seems like the market for natural haircare has really exploded, and it’s not just high end brands which are taking advantage of the movement. It seems like every week there is a new release, making natural hair care more accessible (and purse friendly) than ever.
Kerastase Claims – with formulas composed from an average of 98% natural origin ingredients. All formulas average 97% biodegradable. No Silicones. No Sulfates. No Parabens.
Bain Micellaire. From £16.95. Upon opening the shampoo I first noticed the strong herbal scent which was quite predictable and completely disappears once you’ve dried your hair. I know a lot of people complain that Kerastase fragrances are really strong, so if you’re one of those, you should be happy that this one doesn’t linger. The shampoo is supposed to provide gentle cleansing with 72 hours of frizz protection and create a light, airy lather. I’m guessing gentle cleansing means without stripping the hair of its natural oils, and it didn’t feel like it stripped my hair too much, but didn’t feel particularly moisturizing either – making it great for normal hair. I’m not sure about the frizz fighting claims as it’s not a concern of mine, but my hair did feel really smooth afterwards.
Soin Fondamental. From £19.50. The conditioner claims to weightlessly detangle hair and provide 48 hours of deep nutrition for a nude uncoated touch and healthy glow. I really love a silicone free conditioner and this worked well to detangle without weighing my hair down. The fragrance isn’t as strong as the shampoo, and disappears almost instantly leaving your hair smelling clean and fresh.
Concentre Essentiel. From £31.79. Concentrated treatment made from a blend of jojoba, avocado, coconut, sunflower and argan oil made with 99% natural ingredients – silicone free. This blend of oil is perfect to use as a pre shampoo treatment, or sparingly on damp hair. The first I used it I made the mistake of using one full pump on my freshly washed hair and ended up having to wash it all over again. I’ve since learnt to use the tiniest amount on damp hair and think it’s probably best suited to thick unruly hair. As with all Kerastase products, the packaging is designed to be displayed with pride. The red and gold detailing has a luxe feel and kind of reminds me of Christmas!
I’ve really enjoyed using the Aura Botanica range, and look forward to more products being added in the future.
Love, Sarah xx
