Armani do makeup really well. They’re a key player in the beauty industry, having crossed over from high-end fashion to high-end beauty and are at the top of their game thanks to a selection of iconic products that have made waves in the beauty industry. Their Luminous Silk foundation has reached cult status and is a long time love of mine. It’s something I reach for on good skin days, or when I want to look good in flash photography. I love the airbrushed effect it has on camera, thanks to the micro-fil technology which fills in pores and smooths out any bumps on the surface of the skin. However sometimes I wish it provided a bit more coverage, so when I heard that Armani were releasing a new high coverage foundation, I thought it could be everything I’ve been looking for. Priced at £40 here and released in mid January, this is what Armani claims:
A liquid foundation that teams long-wear, full coverage with a luminous, lightweight second skin finish. Upon application, the texture melts into the skin, weightlessly concealing the appearance of imperfections and creating a long-lasting, no makeup feel. Like the Armani jacket, that timeless wardrobe essential, power fabric has been created for a successful, confident, modern and elegant woman. This full coverage foundation dresses the skin, enhances the look of facial features and targets the appearance of fatigue.
The packaging incorporates a frosted glass bottle and iconic black lid – it feels expensive and you definitely know where your £40 has gone. There are 15 shades to choose from in the UK and I’ve found that the shades for fair to light skin mostly lean towards peachy/pink undertones, with the exception of shades 2 (for very light skin) and 4.5 (for light skin). If you’re looking to order online, it’s worth noting that the shades don’t correspond with other Armani foundations – so you probably shouldn’t buy your regular shade because chances are it won’t match. I’m normally shades 3.5 and 4 in Armani foundations, however in Power Fabric I’m shade 4.5 which is quite similar to shade 4 in Luminous Silk, but slightly darker. As you can see it looks quite light against my arm but blends after a couple of minutes.
Since I don’t have perfect skin I really favour foundation over any other makeup product. I was really hoping Power Fabric would be similar to Luminous Silk, but with the added coverage and increased staying power. While it does provide those things, I have to say that I was left a bit disappointed. I found the coverage to be a solid medium – which is what I prefer for everyday, however when a foundation claims to be full coverage – I expect full coverage. The foundation sets to a luminous matte finish which is quite glowy and the micro-fil technology fills in pores to create a smoothing effect. It’s extremely flattering for people who suffer from large pores or textured skin. There’s an spf of 25, which makes it an ideal foundation to wear during the day to protect yourself from the sun and premature ageing. I personally prefer to wear foundation that doesn’t contain an spf and get my sun protection from my primer, however it’s totally down to personal preference.
I set the foundation with powder and find it lasts an average of 4 hours before my natural oils started peeking through. Unless I’m wearing something a bit more heavy duty (like Estee Lauder Double Wear), foundations normally don’t last too long on my skin, so this is quite average. I find it separates around my nose and chin around the 3 hour mark and is quite patchy in areas by the end of the day – it’s definitely one I have to reapply throughout the day, but I don’t mind because the finish is beautiful. Despite disagreeing with some of the claims, I have to say that I really like this foundation. It’s a great option for people looking for medium coverage and a poreless finish, I’m just not sure I’d wear it everyday due to the price tag.
Love, Sarah xx
